UD Almería veterans win international tournament
The unstoppable Rojiblancos lifted the trophy in the Portuguese town of Paredes after thrashing the hosts in the final (0-5). Previously, they beat Benfica (1-2). Slovenia and Madeira, next destinations
The UD Almería veterans have won the trophy of the Portuguese town of Paredes, in which they participated along with four other teams, including Benfica. As a results, they extend their victorious run also at international level.
Since the team was created under the direction of brothers Rafael and Luis Malpica, with the strong support of the Club, have not lost a single match, despite facing rivals of enormous potential both in the past Andalusian championship and in this first trip abroad.
During three days, the Rojiblancos have been in the North of Portugal to face this tournament. In the semi-finals, they had to face favourites Benfica, whom they won 1-2 with goals from Beltrán and Narci. In the final, they thrashed hosts Paredes 0-5.
I. Callejón, Guille, Luis, Emilio and Ruzzo scored in this tournament. In both international games, the starting XI was the same made up of Gualda, Emilio, I. Callejón, J. Callejón, Francis, Beltrán, Guille, Moi Peña, Narci, Luis and Butra. Players J. Carlos, Sabino, Añoño, Ruzzo, J. Martos, Chema and Álvaro also played.
The tournament came to an end with the presentation of trophies and an exhibition match that saw the veterans of Gil Vicente, a club whose first team competes in the Portuguese elite football and a selection of the rest of the participants in which those from Almería played a special role as they had up to 5 players: I. Callejón, Emilio, Guille, J. Carlos and J. Callejón.
In mid-September, the Rojiblancos have been invited to play in Slovenia and in the first quarter of 2025, they will also travel to Madeira; all this regardless of the different charity matches that take place in Almería and other provinces.
