‘This tie does justice to the hard effort of the players’

José Gomes highlights that Almería showed great attitude to deal with a ‘hard-fought game’

UD Almería collected a massive point against Fuenlabrada and Jose Gomes’ shared his thoughts on the score in the press room: ‘This tie does justice to the hard effort of our players.’ In addition, the head coach pinpointed what went wrong by defining the result as ‘the least negative aspect’ over the ninety minutes.

Without making excuses, the Rojiblancos’ gaffer stressed that his players had to deal with a pitch that ‘was very difficult to play on’, despite the fact that the home team did ‘a phenomenal job’ to try to improve. At the same time, the Portuguese explained the reason why the Indalicos remained faithful to their style of play instead of looking for another way: ‘We didn’t want to use our 'plan B' because the ball was circulating, although playing on the inside was not easy. I was confident that by doing the minimum of our process we could create scoring opportunities.’

As Gomes recognised, ‘with the sending-off of Sadiq the game became tougher.’ That is why he did not hesitate to emphasise that Almería showed ‘attitude at all times’ until they managed to score. ‘We cannot forget that there’re no easy games in this league level. You have to have the spirit of humility in both hands. We mustn’t take anything for granted because we still have a long way to go,’ he concluded.
