The Portuguese head coach José Gomes has become the new head coach of the UD Almería for the remainder of the season and the next to come, so that this Tuesday he will take over the first-team once he and his coaching staff pass the corresponding tests for Covid-19 required by LaLiga’s health and safety protocol.

The Rojiblanco club had taken advantage of the squad’s weekend break to reflect, first, and then act, with a deep restructuring of its backroom team. In fact, José Gomes arrives with his own co-workers: Jorge Mendoça (assistant manager), André Bikey (assistant), Joao Penedo and Claudio Lopes (scouts), Jorge Baptista (goalkeeper coach) and Jaime Miheiro (fitness coach).

José Manuel Martins Teixeira Gomes, known as José Gomes in football terms, was born on 28th August, 1970 in the Portuguese town of Matosinhos, so he will soon turn 50. He is a coach with wide experience, personality and character, who has been in charge of teams in different countries such as Portugal (Madeira Maritime, Rio Ave, CD Aves ...), England (Reading), Saudi Arabia (Al-Ahli and Al-Taawon), Emirates Arabs (FC Baniyas) and last but not least, Hungary (Videoton).

In addition, previously, he was assistant manager with Jesualdo Ferreira in Porto, Málaga CF and Panathinaikos.

When it comes down to the previous backroom team, as we mentioned before, only Víctor Fortes and Ricardo Molina remain. The Almeria B Portuguese will return to the second Rojiblanco team, and the others are leaving the club, such as Mario Silva, Jesús Muñoz and Víctor Mañas. UD Almería would like to thank them warmly for their absolute professionalism and commitment.
