Rubi: ‘At long last we realise that we can beat any team’

The UD Almeria gaffer was completely satisfied with the performance put in by his team and stressed: ‘We’re going to fight until the end for the goal and we’ll achieve it.'

UD Almería played a brilliant match to be able to beat FC Barcelona, a team that had only lost once [Real Madrid CF] all season. Rubi's men bossed around throughout the full ninety minutes with a rock-solid defence and showing themselves effective in attack. At the end of the game, the Rojiblancos’ head coach spoke to the media at the Power Horse Stadium press room to give his verdict on Sunday’s historic victory over the Catalans, who are the current LaLiga Santander leaders.

Rubi clarified: ‘We always work out a game plan and today it turned out perfectly. He also stressed: ‘It’s a historic day.’ The head coach confirmed his approach to the press every time he plays against Barça: ‘Whenever I've played FC Barcelona, I've done it with two forwards, we knew we were going to have one up there, we've tried to take advantage of it and that's how it’s been.'

Regarding the consistency on both fronts, Rubi clarified: ‘I prefer to be strong at home than away, so fans enjoy it.’ During today's game, the Indálicos’ coach was clear about his approach: ‘We decided that Leo would come down to help the defence and he did it perfectly. The objective was to have Frekie de Jong out of our area and it turned out well.’ In addition, the Vilassar de Mar native highlighted their work on the defensive line: ‘The two central defenders have been amazing. The level of performance of our footballers is high.’ Once again, he praised his team's fine efforts: ‘the players have worked like beasts to win a game like this.’

‘Games have to be played with enthusiasm, a lowly team has been able to beat one of the top clubs worldwide. ‘At long last we realise that we can beat any team. We’ll fight until the end for the goal and we’ll achieve it,’ assured Rubi.
