Pepe Mel: 'This victory was fair'

The UD Almería head coach highlighted in the post-Cádiz presser that his team had already done well to achieve the victory and stressed: 'A result like this is important'

UD Almería head coach Pepe Mel began the post-Cádiz press conference after UD Almería's rampant victory at the Power Horse Stadium by saying, a long-awaited home victory: 'A result like this is important,' although he added that in the first half his players were not giving it their all: 'At half-time, I had to sub several players and I made them see that we couldn't end the season with this image in Spanish football. We were walking on the pitch before... I just couldn't let them do that anymore,' he stated.

'In the second half, we showed pride and professionalism. It's the least that can be asked of a footballer. I don't know if the result is big or not, but we've done enough to have won it. The team has performed at a magnificent level in the second period,' he explained.

Pepe Mel also spoke about the UD Almería 'B' youngsters who have been able to wear the first-team shirt in an official match: 'Two homegrown players have made their debut. That's heritage for UD Almería, I'm sure that if they take care of them, which I'm convinced they will, they'll be two players who will contribute loads to the squad.'

To finish sharing his post-game thoughts, the Madrid native coach sent a message to the team for next season: 'The second half they played today...that way of going all our to win the game is the path they have to follow from the beginning of the 2024/25 season in Segunda because it's a very long competition. UD Almería's main objective is automatic promotion,' he concluded.
