Nikola Maras becomes the first signing of the Almería 2020/21 season
The club has activated the purchase option for the Serbian defender from GD Chaves. The centre-back signs new contract until June 2024
UD Almería has activated the purchase option for Nikola Maras from GD Chaves, so that the centre-back becomes a player owned by Almeria and the first signing of the 2020/21 season. Specifically, the club and the footballer have reached an agreement whereby the player will wear the red and white striped jersey until June 2024.
The Serbian defender has been one of the revolutionary players of LaLiga SmartBank during the 2019/20 season. Maras, who arrived on loan from Portuguese football, played a total of 39 games —36 in LaLiga SmartBank, 2 in the play-offs and 1 in the Copa del Rey — during the campaign and was one of the starters in numerous line-ups.
Beyond his great defensive contributions, the 24-year old central defender has also been one of the most impressive performers and stood out for his presence in the opponents’ area in set pieces. In this sense, the Almería defender scored a total of three goals during the competition; two of them in LaLiga SmartBank and another in the Copa del Rey game against UD Tamaraceite played in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Canary Islands).
Nikola Maras becomes the first signing of UD Almería for the upcoming 2020/21 season. Hence, the club ensures the continuity of one of the best centre-backs in the Spanish second-tier, in addition to laying the foundation of the squad.
