Jonathan Viera: "I come with enormous enthusiasm and the best intentions in the world"

The experienced Canarian attacking midfielder is committed to getting the best out of the team and getting out of the current situation step by step: 'I'm here so that they can become the best version of themselves and together achieve the first victory, which will help a lot psychologically.'

UD Almería's brand-new signing Jonathan Viera was officially presented this Thursday morning to the media and showed the happiness, enormous enthusiasm and good intentions that the Canarian footballer brings to the Club. Regarding this aspect, the attacking midfielder pointed out: 'It's a new, beautiful and important challenge, we come with enormous enthusiasm and the best intentions in the world.'

Regarding his position on the pitch, the latest recruit commented: 'The head coach knows me perfectly and knows where I play, I'm here to help the team wherever. I'm more comfortable in the midfield, but if I have to do it in another position I've got no problem. I'm here to win games.'

The 34-year-old UD Almería footballer knows 'perfectly what the squad is like at a time like this. We have many young players with little experience in these situations, but I've been through this several times and I'm here for them to become the best version of ourselves and together achieve the first victory that will help a lot psychologically.'

The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria-born also assessed the reason for the team's situation and how it's possible that, with the squad they are, they're the bottom team. Regarding this aspect, he underlined: 'Football, this is football, there are seasons that when it rains it pours: injuries, that the team doesn't finish to gel, that instead of you scoring, the other team scores first… that's where we are, but we want to get it right, win a game and take that burden away from the team.'

Jonathan Viera sent a message to the UD Almería fans and assured them: 'We're going to try to enjoy competing. We want supporters to come to the pitch and leave the stadium proud of their team. In a situation like this, when people are excited is good for everyone, because it's difficult to achieve it, it's clear that with them we're going to be stronger.'

The Canary Islands native player is clear about what needs to be done to gradually get out of this very atypical situation: 'The important thing is Monday's fixture, if we think about how we can escape relegation or the points we have left... it's going to be difficult for us...and we'll stress out and the team must avoid that before playing.'

The attacking midfielder also stated: 'The only way to get out of where we are is to go game by game.' To close his presentation to the local press, he assured that he is looking forward to playing a match again after two months without doing so: 'I really want to, I love football, I want to play footie at all times, I'm very excited and, above all, give joy to people and help my team-mates.'
