Šviderský: I've gone through a rough patch that will help me in the future

The young Slovakian defensive midfielder talks about the recovery period from his serious ACL injury and stresses that he dreams of playing for UD Almería in Primera Division

Slovakian defensive midfielder Martin Šviderský has finally recovered from the serious injury, a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee, that he picked up at the end of last season playing for UD Almería 'B'. Despite being only 20 years old, he showed that he is a mature footballer in the interview he had with the Club's official radio station, UDA Radio. 'I feel much better now, but I've gone through a rough patch. I'm very thankful to the Club staff, the medical services and my team-mates for their strong support.'  
 
Šviderský, Slovakia U21 international, arrived at UD Almería last season aged 19. From the first moment he started training with the first team. Although he did not debut with the senior team, he made his 'B' team debut so that he would get match experience in his legs. As the young player explained: 'I was close to being able to play a few minutes, but I learned a lot even though I didn't play.'
 
'When I picked up the injury, I knew it was serious because I had already suffered it before in the other knee when I was at Manchester Utd,' he explained. He also added: 'I've had to work hard, alone, almost without holidays… but you learn from it and I guess that everything I've been through is going to help me in the future as a footballer and personally, when I have to face negative things.' On that note, he indicated: 'It was vital for me to think positively because otherwise I wouldn't have made it through. I talked a lot with Rodrigo Ely, who had the same injury and shook it off.'
 
It's been four months since the Vranov nad Topľou native tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, and although he still has a long way to go, he assures: 'I'm closer to returning.' He works out in the gym and receives physiotherapy treatment. He has even done some ball work 'something that helps psychologically. I truly hope to be able to start running in a few weeks, which 'It'd be one more step forward in my recovery process.' 
 
Martin Šviderský, who reflected: 'Only those who have suffered this type of injury know how hard this is and how much you suffer.' He dreams 'of playing for UD Almería in the Primera Division.' At the moment, his main objective is to continue on the right path in his rehabilitation, knowing that he is part of the first team squad: 'The team-mates and the head coach show me that. Vicente Moreno is interested and asks me how I'm doing.'
