Garitano: "We deserved to win the game"

The UD Almería head coach highlighted the great first half played by his team, the effective defensive work and the positive attitude, but he regretted the chances failed in the final stretch and that a clear penalty wasn't awarded to Pozo in the Bath minute

UD Almería head coach Gaizka Garitano gave his take on the loss at the Nuevo Los Cármenes Stadium. 'We deserved to win the game. We played a great first half and we could've gone into the break with a few more goals ahead, then, in the second half, with substituted Lucas Boyé they have pushed harder, but it's also true that the situations we had were very clear, even that last penalty, which for me is clear about Pozo.'

'Once again we were very close to winning, we earned merit to this, although in those last situations we didn't get it right. It's a shame not to we have won,' regretted the gaffer.

Regarding substitutions, the Rojiblancos' head coach assured: 'We have made four changes, three have been requested by the players; Jonathan couldn't take it anymore and asked for it, Choco had cramps, no I could continue and Baba was injured.'

In relation to the most dubious plays of the encounter, Mr Garitano made it clear: 'The controversial plays aren't favoring us; the ref has pointed out a penalty that wasn't true and that the VAR had to correct and then, that of Pozo, as I've said, I think it's evident and would've given us the possibility of victory

To conclude his post-match assessment, the Bilbao-born noted: 'The team has given everything, we've played a good game and I want to thank the fans. Logically, he leaves sad because we haven't been able achieve victory and this is already taking a long time for everyone, especially for them, who are being the best.'
