The Basque Country native head coach arrived in Almería city last Monday morning and his first football practice kicked off at 8pm on the same day. Since then and until this Saturday, there have been eight training sessions delivered with good vibes.
Mr Garitano had significant absences due to unforeseen injuries and international matches. Lucas Robertone's return into the fold is definitely great news. On a negative note, the serious injury suffered by Koné when playing away for the Mali squad has been another setback to deal with as the centre-forward is going to join the list of crocked players.
The arrival of the new UD Almería gaffer has been a real boost for the squad as the players have recognised throughout the week. One of the immediate focus has been tightening things up at the back and working on a few other aspects out to improve passing and finishing accuracy.
UD Almería will be back to training next Monday evening at the Anexo ground to focus squarely on Sunday's match (22nd October) against Girona FC, fearsome rivals at the Montilivi Stadium. In this first preparation of the coming week Gaizka Garitano will not have all the internationals in the building since Lopy will be featuring for the Senegal squad against Cameroon on Monday, 16th October.
This Saturday, the Rojiblancos carried out a final training session with the presence of only 17 footballers (3 of them goalkeepers) since the UD Almería 'B' youngsters, as it happened on Friday evening session, are now getting ready to face their imminent league match.
Melero, Edgar and Medes continue to work out on the sidelines, although making progress in the recovery processes.
